Akira watched the arrancar charge at her. His name had haunted her thoughts... Eudeyrn Yngvar... It was a name from her culture. The lightning bolt from her hand shot towards him. He made no attempt to block or move from it, as if he had not noticed it.

At the last second, he tried to manoeuvre out of its way. It was in vein. He looked straight into the lightning. His right eye was the victim. He stopped, clasping his hands over his eye. Blood seeped between his fingers. It ran down his arm and hands and rolled off his elbows like water on a window ledge.

He opened his mouth and screamed in pain. The sound was jagged and painful to the ears. It sliced though the skin of those who heard it. Akira winced slightly. She had a fear of what might be lurking behind his hand… She was not squeamish; she had seen countless humans butchered like cattle before. It was just eyes… They were the gateway to the soul. If there was no door then it was fearsome to her.

He moved one of his hands. The other was still clasped over his eye. He grabbed his Zanpakutou and leapt at her. He was seeing red, not red from the blood, due to her lucky attack and that’s all it had been – A lucky attack – she was fearful of what was coming next.

He slashed in anger at her. They were clumsy attacks. Even in his anger she struggled to move fast enough. He made a lunge at her – one of which she couldn’t escape from – which brought a crimson line across her back. She ignored the pain, bringing her blade towards his throat, a desperate attempt to stop him.

He grabbed the blade in his hand. She stared at his hand – The one he had been clutching his face with – She didn’t dare look at his face. The blood dripped onto her blade from his hand. The blade was not slicing into him. She could feel his anger.

‘Look at me Shinigami! This is so similar to the time when we were alive…’ He said coldly. It made her blood freeze in her veins. He had said when THEY had been alive… Did he know her? She turned her head and then turned it back to where it was before. She had forgotten his eye. She hadn’t seen it… luckily.

He pulled her Zanpakutou from her, slinging it aside. With his now free hand, he grabbed her face. She felt the blood against her skin. Her heart missed a beat. His grip was strong like a vice. She felt him turning her head to face him. She attempted to resist but failed.

She began to see a glimpse of his face. From the corner of her eye she could see red – blood – and a dark patch – his eye – she felt as if she was going to be sick. She was now facing him completely. His hand moved towards her neck. She stared into his left eye, daring not to look into the right eye. She saw her reflection. There was a red print across her face, his handprint. She snapped out of her small delusion; his hand had tightened around her neck.

She turned her head in panic. She saw into his right eye… or where it was. There was nothing more than the empty eye cavity. It was dark and bloody. She felt as if she would be sick.

‘Does this bring back memories Akira?’ he whispered slyly. She knew that voice… It was slowly coming back to her. She felt the air around them begin to thicken. This was a serious case of déjŕ vu… or was it? She felt his hand begin to get even tighter around her neck. He pushed her into a tree trunk. He raised his blade at her, laying it against her check. It dug into her skin slightly, drawing blood.

The memories came to her…
‘Eudeyrn… Yngvar… The serial killer… I remember now…’ she stuttered, trailing off. He was the one who had murdered her entire family. She had attacked him, making him loose an eye. She ran out of the house… ran for so long… ran until her bear feet bled. She led him to a forest. He caught up to her and thrust her against a tree. He placed his knife against her cheek and strangled her… but she didn’t die. He let her live for a while.

‘Yes you remember that night…’ he growled. It was more of a hiss. He threw her to the ground. This was exactly like it had been before; only he hadn’t strangled her this time… He wanted her to feel more pain this time…

He rammed his foot into her stomach, sending her flying into the tree not far from her. She turned over onto her back. He laid his foot on he stomach. Pressing her into he ground below. He turned his blade on her. He thrust into the joint between her arm and her shoulder. Pain seared through her whole body. She screamed.

Her scream grew louder not from pain but from fear of the past repeating itself once more. Louder still she screamed. It was as if she felt that if she screamed louder, he would leave her and the past will not repeat itself.

He seemed amused by this… He listened to her cries; pain, anger, threats and distress.
No…I will not be beaten again by my weakness!
Akira felt her heart pounding furiously. The Eudeyrn pulled back. He was laughing uncontrollably. He was leaning against a tree.

Akira pulled herself weakly to her feet. She felt weak. She lifted her Zanpakutou. It shook in her grasp. She was trembling, a pitiful sight. She charged at him. She didn’t flash step - there was no need – she just pounded at the earth below heartlessly. She felt the air rush against her face like a cold needles. It gave her strength and it gave her hope.

She neared the Eudeyrn. She plunged her Zanpakutou into his stomach, just below his hollow hole. She forced the blade into the tree behind him. He stopped laughing.

Akira leapt backwards. She pointed at him.
‘I will kill you Yngvar… Shinigami’s honour!’ she growled. Eudeyrn pulled at the blade. It wouldn’t budge. He was stuck.

Akira began to say an incantation. As she neared the end, she flash stepped just in front of him.

‘Hadou #33 – Soukatsui!’ she screamed. Her heart pounding the whole time…

An excellently written piece, and a definite improvement. One point, though..

"Running with her bear feet."
Bare. Bare. (I always pick out these things, lol...)
Perhaps you should re-read your writing a couple of times, next time?
