View Full Version : [Application] Yamashina, Arisu <10th Division>

Name: Arisu Yamashina
Age: At Death – 18, Currently – 62

Appearance:
Overall, Arisu appears to be a normal young woman, with no real striking features that set her apart from others. That however she makes up for with her vibrant personality. She stands at a height of 5’5” and has a weight of around 130lbs when she was last measured. Arisu is physically fit with an athletic build, which she gained from spending many hours training. Yet she still maintains a proportional, feminine appearance despite that. Her skin is naturally fair but thanks to being outdoors a lot of the time, she is often tanned.

Arisu has long, straight hair which reaches down to the middle of her back, and is thick and dark brown in color. She often prefers to wear it up in either a ponytail or binds it with a clip. She most striking facial features are her eyes, almond-shaped with a warm brown color. When one looks into them they can see her liveliness and determination. Due to poor eyesight she is forced to wear glasses, which are designed to flatter her oval face.

Arisu is a lovely girl and she knows it, taking pride in her appearance. This makes her somewhat narcissistic, and she spends a bit of time in the mornings in front of the mirror getting ready.

Personality:
At first glance, she appears to be a shy and quiet person, which sometimes gives others the impression that Arisu has a cold attitude. Once someone gets to know her however, they learn that is really not the case. Arisu is often warm, friendly and outgoing around those she knows, leading her to have a rather hyper personality at times. She also loves to have fun, mainly around those she’s comfortable with though. When around people she doesn’t know she reverts back to her quiet, socially awkward self.

As far as work goes, Arisu occasionally needs motivation in order to complete tasks. Unless it’s something she’s really passionate about, chances are she’ll drop a project after a while if someone doesn’t get on her case to finish it. For the most part, she shows a deep respect to her superiors and teachers, trying her best to keep from having to be reprimanded. Arisu is also fiercely loyal to those she cares about, including the people she respects over all others. Because of that loyal nature of hers, she would fight to protect those people that are important to her.

There are a few personality traits that don’t work in Arisu’s favor however. Sometimes Arisu has a tendency to say what she thinks without thinking beforehand and what she says often has the potential to offend someone. No matter how often this happens though, she never means to say things that are really hurtful to others. She is also a bit forgetful, and needs to keep a schedule with her to remember what her obligations and appointments for the day. On top of that, Arisu is often disorganized and will occasionally lose the aforementioned schedule.

Biography:
Arisu remembers almost nothing from her life before she had died. All that she knew was her first name: Arisu. After her death she had ended up in Soul Society, residing within the 10th District of Northern Rukongai. She spent several years just quietly wandering the streets of this district, until one day she was noticed and adopted into the Yamashina family. While being a member of this ‘family’ unit, she was able to spend about a decade with them without any real hardship or problem.

This nearly carefree life of hers continued until one day she felt something she hadn’t in years, pangs of hunger. She had gone so long without feeling it she didn’t realize what was wrong with her and went along with her daily routine of exploring the district, thinking that she was just coming down with a sickness of sorts. Arisu was still wandering around Rukongai with a member of her family until her hunger became so bad that she had more or less collapsed, having to have her ‘brother’ carry her back home. On the way someone noticed that Arisu had been clutching her stomach and stopped the two, getting her a small amount of food.

After eating just enough to stop her stomach from bothering her, she was told just what her hunger symbolized and that if she trained, Arisu could have the potential to become one of the Shinigami. The thought of that excited and fascinated her, and she made it her goal in her life there to become a member of the Gotei 13.

Division applying to: 10th Division

Zanpakuto appearance:
Arisu’s zanpakuto is like many others, a standard-issue katana. Hers is 120cm long total, and she keeps the blade well sharpened and polished. The guard is circular and silver, with detail that resembles waves on the water. Her zanpakuto’s hilt has a sky-blue colored silk woven onto it. To make the zanpakuto her own, she has a ribbon tied to the end using the same sky-blue silk that covers the hilt. Her zanpakuto’s sheath is standard as well, with no noticeable details on it.

Sample Mission:
Will be added soon. Sorry for any inconvenience.

This application is well thought out. I like the detail you put in your appearance and personality that allows me to better understand and visualize Arisu. Good work. The only fault I could find in your application is that you didn't put 8th Division under the Division you're applying to. Put in your sample and we'll see how it goes.

I too find your application very well done. It paints a wonderful picture as to who Arisu is. I'm looking forward to reading your sample mission.

Sidenote: Thank you both for the kind words in regards to the parts of the application that I had finished thus far, though for the longest time you had me confused on your comment over that whole 8th division thing, Blackheartz.

I apologize for the long time period in between getting that done and the sample mission.

Sample Mission:

Arisu woke up to the sun shining through the window to the room that she shared with her sister. As she sat up Arisu yawned, then proceeded to rub her eyes. Next, she stretched her arms out to get rid of the stiff feeling in them and loosen up. She looked around the room and saw that her sister had already woken up and left the room. As usual, Arisu was the last one to wake up in the house.

Quickly, Arisu stood up and changed into the clothing she would be wearing today. After that she brushed out her hair, putting it up into a ponytail. Then, as was routine for her since her becoming a part of the Yamashina family, Arisu spent a good several minutes looking into the mirror, fixing this and adjusting that. Today, instead of a more feminine kimono, Arisu was wearing a hakama she had borrowed. This was because she planned to be active for most of the day. She was in the middle of training herself. Eventually she hoped to get accepted into the Academy and later on become a Shinigami. In order to even be ready for the Academy, she intended to make sure she was in tip-top shape.

After making sure she looked just right, Arisu cleaned up the rest of the room by rolling up her futon and placing it in the closet. She then left the room, making sure to slide the door closed before she made her way to the kitchen area of their home. As she entered the kitchen, she saw her mother, who was busy cleaning up after everyone else had finished eating.

“Good morning, Mom.” Arisu gave her mother a quick hug before continuing. “Is there any food left from breakfast?”

Her mother laughed as she returned the hug and motioned over to the table. “There’s a plate over there for you, Arisu. You’re going to train again today?”

“Thank you, Mom. And if I don’t train, I may not be able to reach my goal…since I was told about the shinigami I decided it’s what I want to do.” Arisu looked over at the table and could see the plate her mother mentioned. On it were some scrambled eggs and sausage. They weren’t Arisu’s favorite, but she ate it all nonetheless. She would need the energy for when she began training.

As she finished up her meal, she set the empty plate with the other dishes that needed washing and left to begin her training for the day. To get to the area in which Arisu planned to train would mean traveling to the outskirts of Rukongai. She always felt like it was training in itself just to get there since she lived with her family in the 10th District of 80 districts total in Northern Rukongai. As she went further out, Arisu also needed to keep track of her surroundings because the further away from Seireitei she went, the more dangerous it became.

After a while, Arisu had reached the 70th District and it was then that she accidentally bumped into a man. He was taller than Arisu, as was often the case and he looked to be a bit on the heavy side, which was evident by the size of his gut. “Ah, I’m sorry sir.” Arisu turned to apologize to the man. As she did so, she was pushed forward forcefully.

“I should teach you to watch where you’re walking, lady.” His voice was gruff and his speech sounded somewhat slurred, as if he’d spent much of his life smoking and drinking. The latter seemed to be a current problem of the man, he didn’t seem like he’d be able to walk a straight line even if he tried.

Arisu regained her footing and turned to face the man, as he charged towards her. She quickly dove out of the way, tripping the man in the process but the move hurt her wrist a little in the process. As he stood back up she could practically feel the anger radiating off of him. The man went after her again as Arisu was standing back up, and swung a punch at her. Moving backwards, the blow just caught her stomach and she stepped back to avoid being dealt a bigger hit. Luckily the wind wasn’t knocked out of her. She could smell the stench of alcohol on the man and knew she’d have to fight back in order to be able to walk away from this opponent.

By now everyone that was nearby in the street around the two had stopped to watch, mainly out of curiosity. Yet, no one was stepping in to aid Arisu…not that she noticed this. Arisu was focused on trying not to be beaten to a pulp by what she had guessed to be the ‘District drunk’. She had no weapons on her to defend herself with, and she silently hoped that her opponent was unarmed as well.

Just what is with this guy? It’s almost as if he intends to kill me, just for accidentally bumping into him

She noticed that the man moved somewhat clumsily, likely due to his state of intoxication. Arisu hoped that soon he’d be in no condition to keep fighting and she knew that in his state, she had the upper hand. Arisu moved towards him while his back was still turned to her and quickly lowered herself to the ground to do a low kick, hoping to make the man lose balance. Not only did this tactic work, it managed to make the man even angrier. He seemed furious.

The man regained his balance and went after Arisu again. She looked to her side and noticed there was a vase there; Arisu was by one of the vendors’ displays. She then glanced back at the man as he landed a punch to her gut, the wind was knocked out of her. Arisu went to push the man away from her as he went to hit her again, buying herself a little time to get to the vase.

Arisu backed away from the man as she tried to catch her breath, trying to get closer to the vase that she had spotted. As he got closer to her again, she stomped on his foot, hoping the pain would be enough to occupy his mind for a moment. Well that did something at least she thought to herself as she saw him trying to shake off the pain she had inflicted on him.

Finally, Arisu had made it close enough so that she could grab the vase, which was now beside her. Her opponent was once again advancing towards her with a slight limp in his step. Now or never… Arisu took hold of the vase. It was heavy but she managed to lift it over her head, smashing it down on top of the man’s head when he got close enough. As the blow landed the vase smashed and after a moment the man fell to the ground.

Arisu let out a sigh of relief as she stood there, glad that it was over. After a few moments, she was able to catch her breath again and looked around the area. “Who was the vendor for that vase?” she asked around.

“Right here and I hope you plan to pay for it.” The woman, who was standing a few feet behind her, had replied.

Arisu nodded as she answered the woman, “How much for it?”

Nicely written sample mission. One thing I noticed, you need to make sure that you start a new paragraph whenever someone new starts to speak.

Dialogue.....something told me that would be talked about because it's the one thing in the application I wasn't sure about. Ah well, I think I fixed it now.
