Name: Kitsumi Mai

Gender: Female

Age: 18 in the real world, 113 in soul society years

Appearance: Mai has long light brown hair often worn down reaching until her waist her eyes are a light shade of blue and her skin was tanned. She had a slight built due to her rigorous training when she was still human. She takes a note to make herself presentable never failing to check for any flaw that may catch a person’s eye.

She roughly weighs around 120 lbs and her height is around 5’3 she stands with a straight posture her hands firmly to her side, often keeping to herself. She rarely feels uncomfortable or at least she never shows it. She rarely or almost never holds grudges but once she gets mad her once blue soft eyes turn to an icy glare that would make anyone uncomfortable.

Personality: Mai has a pessimistic and sarcastic personality she rarely compliments anyone and would prefer to keep things to herself. She tends to see every flaw in a person and finds it somewhat interesting. She likes to view people from a distance watching their actions and personalities fluctuate from being cheerful and carefree to angry and deranged.

A little of her past life now rules her behavior, never failing to laugh or smile when necessary always carrying a mask when ever she goes. But what she truly cannot control is her actions once she holds a weapon. She then shows her true personality, she becomes serious and takes on a plain face. Her eyes rarely waver once she comes to battle and makes straight forward decisions whether she succeeds or fails she willingly takes full responsibility with her actions.

She sees herself more as a warrior then a woman, even with her obsessive care concerning her looks she still prefers to be treated as an equal to men. Once in battle, she is always willing to help others in need but once she sees that it would endanger her and the success of the mission she will not hesitate to leave a comrade behind.

Biography: Mai grew up in the care of a tea house owner where she learned how to serve and cook. Etiquette was never taught to her, it was something that she unconsciously did and was most probably attained in her past life. She never failed to give her respect to the tea house owner who raised her and took care of her for all these years.

She treated her as though she was her own family and Mai was grateful for it. Prior to Mai’s arrival the tea house owner took in two children similar to Mai’s case. One was roughly the same age as Mai, a woman. And the boy was around a few years younger then them. All four of them lived together peacefully after a few years until a hollow appeared in Rukongai. All of them were killed except for Mai who was saved by a Shinigami. After this Mai came to roam around Rukongai until she finally realized that her life in Rukongai was at its end. She then applied in the Shinigami academy and was accepted five years after the incident.

Applying to: 2nd division

Zanpakuto Appearance: Her Zanpakuto is a small wakizashi, a sword shorter then a katana and usually has the same size as the kodachi. Its blade is roughly 24 inches long and curved at the end. Its handle is dark peach in color matching it’s sheathe. And her Zanpakuto’s blade has a Chinese character etched in the near edge of the sword. Mai often carries this short Zanpakuto on her back strapped to her waist with a green sash.

Sample Mission:
Mai crept under her bed cover as her fellow doormats shuffled to their feet, their high pitched voices screaming in excitement. It was the only day of the week that Mai could get some sleep and her two dorm mates couldn’t be considerate enough to at least keep their voices down. Finally Mai gave up and threw her bed cover above her head.

“You’re finally awake Mai-chan!” Ami, one of her dorm mates exclaimed as she jumped on Mai’s bed

Mai rubbed her eyes as her vision cleared, Ami was wearing the school’s standard uniform but this time Ami’s face was as bright as day. Unlike the other school days where she would groan every morning refusing to wake up. Turning her back on them was her other dorm mate Imai, she was fairly calm and shy but even such an event couldn’t keep a shy girl like her quiet for long.

“What are you waiting for Mai-chan? Aren’t you going to prepare your things?” Ami asked as she tugged Mai’s arm

“Nope, I’m staying here” Mai said as she collapsed on her bed showing how tired she was

“You aren’t going to visit your family in Rukongai?” Imai said as she turned her shoulder to the two of them

“Nope”

“Why not? We only get to visit them once a year” Imai asked this time she was facing the mirror again fixing her long braids.

“Like I said I’m not going, I already asked the headmaster and he didn’t seem to have a problem with it”

“That’s too bad” Ami said as she stood up and opened the door, “But your choice, we’ll see you in three days then”

After that Mai heard the doors slam shut which only signaled the start of her three days of peace and quiet. After a few hours Mai decided to finally wake up. She fixed herself up and took a nice long shower before deciding to train for a while. Even when she knew that no one was going to be left in the dormitories she still had the habit of checking herself in the mirror, making sure that nothing was out of place.

She decided to practice with her sparring for a while, choosing the nearest dojo where she often trained. It was fairly big and had a wooden sword rack used for class sparring. She took one and positioned herself in her stance. She always had a problem with her footing, her sensei would often point out the position of her feet it was either incorrect or out of place. He mentioned that this could be a weakness for an opponent to target.

Though she did not see the need for such skills she still practiced them. In her point of view she did not need to know small things when she’ll be fighting something that could careless for weaknesses, a hollow.

She started with her footing, bringing her hand down and the precise moment that her right foot would touch the ground. Keeping a one foot distance from both her feet she moved swiftly across the room her hands bringing down the wooden sword then bringing it up again.

After a while the door behind her opened, she turned to the sound of footsteps as a man carrying his Zanpakuto entered the dojo. His hand was behind his back and his Zanpakuto was carried around his waist. Mai stood there silent waiting for the man to speak.

“Um…” The man said uneasily as he stared at Mai then at the floor then back at her again

“If you have something to say then say it” Mai said casually trying as much as she could to keep the venom from her voice

“Ah, sorry I didn’t mean to disturb you it’s just that I didn’t expect anyone to be here”

“Your name?”

“Ishimura Loki”

“Kitsumi Mai”

Mai then went across the room and threw him a wooden sword which he caught easily, “Why are you here?”

“I should be asking you the same question” Loki said as he untied the sash and placed his Zanpakuto on the side

“How rude” Mai said

“If you want to know so badly then beat the answers out of me”

“My pleasure”

Mai ran towards him, after her fifth step, she shunpo’ed behind him and brought the wooden sword down. Loki blocked it with his own sword and pushed Mai back, Loki then came at her but she easily blocked the move but instead of pushing him back Mai went down and kicked both of his feet sideways. Loki then fell hard on his back, he winced and Mai put down her wooden sword inches from his neck her eyes bearing into his.

Loki raised his arms in surrender, “I give up, you win”

Mai brought the wooden sword away from Loki’s throat and he relaxed. Mai then walked towards the wooden rack then placed the wooden sword there. She then packed her things and went for the door.

“Weren’t you interested in hearing my story?” Loki challenged

“No”
“How cruel” Loki joked

“I don’t have plans to talk with those who take me fore granted” Mai then turned her head towards Loki, “If you ever hold back on me again, you’ll regret it”

With that Mai closed the doors with a loud slam and Loki merely looked at the doors puzzled.

Mai walked towards her dorm room and shut the door behind her. She checked the clock above the bed and it read 6:30pm she didn’t realize those eight hours had already passed. She shrugged she would just have to catch dinner in the cafeteria once she had the chance.

She then took a long hot shower and fixed her hair, she also decided to tidy up her room, might as well when she had this much time in her hands. After wards she went to the cafeteria where three students, two guys and a girl were sitting together chatting away.

I guess there really were students who stayed, Mai thought as she took her seat three tables away from the group and started eating her dinner, this is going to be a long weekend

Biography:

Real world:
Mai grew up from a wealthy family from the Victorian era in the United Kingdom, their family was highly respected and so their parents had high expectations for them. She was the youngest out of the three, her two older brothers excelled in their own talents while she took on the duties of a woman.

Never failing her parents, she acted correctly and always based her decisions with their will. When she often grew tired of her routines she would do something unexpected. She was the adventurous type, always seeking for something new out of the manor.

When she turned 18 Mai was asked to attend a social gathering where her fiancée would announce their engagement. Leaving at the desired time she went off in a carriage to go out of town where the gathering was held. She never arrived at the social gathering. Three days later the carriage was found with both the butler as well as Mai’s body. The carriage was said to have been ambushed by thieves.

Rukongai:
Mai grew up in the care of a tea house owner where she learned how to serve and cook. Etiquette was never taught to her, it was something that she unconsciously did and was most probably attained in her past life. She never failed to give her respect to the tea house owner who raised her and took care of her for all these years. With her adoption she inherited her last name.

She then applied in the Shinigami academy and was accepted five years after the incident.

Shinigami academy:
Mai was never fond of her teachers as well as fellow students, she would often comment on their behavior and lack of manners. But she was able to find a few comrades who she opened herself to. She found it difficult to get along with some students due to her prior view of Rukongai. Seeing people as harsh due to the life outside soul society, she had the impression that most of the souls were selfish and unreasonable.

She learned how to trust people only in the near end of her years in the academy. Having faced a life or death situation she found herself protected by one of her comrades this opened her eyes and she sought to seek others more and to trust them.

Mai often carries this short Zanpakuto on her back strapped to her waist with a green sash.

When she draws her Zanpakuto she uses her right hand to grip its handle. The sheathe would often tip to the side letting the Zanpakuto’s blade easily slide out. She wields her Zanpakuto with her right hand often using her left hand to secure it’s sheathe while she draws her Zanpakuto. She uses the Japanese Kendo style, but she only applies it in her footwork. Even with the standard katana in Kendo she doesn’t find a difference when she uses it with her wakizashi. One of the reasons she preferred using this style is due to its unique principles.
