Name:
Amaya Satō

Gender:
Female

Age:
Age at Death :: 17
Age in S.S. :: 32

Appearance:
Amaya is a tad on the short side of things, being only about five feet in height. Her physique would be about an average build; not too skinny, nor on the large side. Her skin complexion is very pale, as she does not have much of an interest in the outdoors.

Amaya’s hair has a slight wave to it with a medium length that reaches down to about her shoulder blades. The colour of it is a rich, dark brown chocolate colour. Her bangs are side swept to the left, where a solid black pin is used to keep them in place. She has bright round eyes, which have an emerald colour.

Amaya’s kimono is almost similar to a standard Shinigami robe, with the exception that hers bear no sleeves. She also has a large scar that runs up her left forearm.

Personality:
Amaya tends to be more of a lazy person. Honestly she would like to spend her days relaxing indoors, rather than having to get up and go to work. Despite the fact she does not like work, she will with no question if needs be. Her desired type of work has always been that of working behind the scenes. She is not a fan of attention, and would really rather stay unnoticed in the shadows most of the time.

Her persona towards others differs slightly. Towards some she can be quite honest and carefree, while with others she’ll remain shy and unspoken. All of this really depends on the type of person she comes in contact with, and whether or not she feels safe to express herself. Although her differentiating actions towards others, she tries to be nice to everyone she comes in contact with as she cannot stand the fact to be hated or even disliked.

Amaya also likes to spend a lot of time by herself. She enjoys just thinking about many things in the peace and quiet. Her recluse actions sometimes tend to project a mysterious type of look to other people. She doesn’t consider herself to be mysterious at all anyhow.

Biography:
Amaya has no recollection of her time in the living world. She spent her days throughout the forty-fourth district in West Rukongai trying her hardest to bring back even the simplest of memories. Of course she had no luck, and remained clueless to her past.

Amaya was a rather lonely one while she was in Rukongai. Rarely did someone try to speak with her, or even acknowledge her for that matter.

To keep her health up, she often stole from many small carts and markets in the area. She had noticed that she had certain quickness about her. Having this special talent made it easy to steal food, and things necessary to keep her functioning.

On a normal day she had been out to get a few small portions of food for herself. While out, she went through her original routine of making hast, and stealing some food. As she was then running along with her stolen goods, she ran into a large man. Worried she had been caught for her crime, she squinted her eyes as if waiting to be scolded. Instead the man had told her how he admired her quickness, and then offered her a place in the academy. Overjoyed at this thought on the inside, she kept her feelings from pouring out, and simply nodded at the man, where she then made her way to the start of a new chapter in her life.

Division Applying For:
<12th Division>

Zanpakuto Appearance:
Amaya’s Zanpakutou is a bit on the short side with the blade being roughly twenty-two inches, and the hilt seven inches. The blade is pure black with a white stripe running along the sharp edge. The katana does not have a cross-guard. The hilt is also pure black with a few artistic white lines running down it. The scabbard has an unusually square-ish shape to it, and it too has the same black colour.

Amaya keeps her Zanpakutou situated on her back, and wields it with her right hand.

In fighting style, she favours hohou and kidou the most. Amaya prefers to stay away from hand to hand combat, as it would only lead to trouble for her. Though not her favourite, she does rely on a bit of Zanjutsu from time to time.

Sample Mission:
She brushed her feet along the ground, while walking and looking up at the huge building she was approaching....

She had remembered it to be so big, the academy. Whilst first glancing at it, it seemed like a huge monster. A quest she must conquer. Nowadays it did not seem at all how she had first previewed it that first day she had seen it. Now it was just like a normal everyday thing to attend, with the occasional boredom sticking its way in there. Looking back she could see why she was so terrified at the thought of attending such an academy. She had, had no friends in the past, let alone hardly anyone approached her in her days in Rukongai. She had thought the academy would be the very same. No one to talk to, being alone, (although she liked to be alone at times, she had always wanted companions to talk with).

She was very wrong in her views, however. People were kind to her and spoke with her at times. Her fast learning skills in the classroom often made her classmates ask for guidance. She didn’t really like this much attention however, and tried to keep in the down low.
--------
“Miss Satō? ... Miss Satō?!” called out the loud voice of a teacher.

“Miss Satō, I suggest you stop day dreaming for once and pay attention to class. Now, would you be as so kind to answer the question I just asked?”

Amaya raised her head, which had been lying on a desk, and looked up at the teacher that was speaking to her. She blinked her eyes a few time to get her view in focus, and then spoke in a tired sounding voice.

“Err ... The question? Would the answer perhaps be…Hadou number ninety, Kurohitsugi?”

“Well, yes. That is the right answer. I don’t see how you pull off day dreaming and always getting the correct answer. Now then, back to what I was saying….”

The teacher’s voice faded out, while Amaya looked down at her desk and sighed. She had always thought about things in class, or how her teacher liked to call it, “day dreaming”. She didn’t know how she was able to concentrate on thinking, while at the same time learning. It just came natural to her, so she tried not to question it that much.

Following that, she heard students around her start to shuffle, and she then realised class must have been over. Mimicking the actions of her classmates, she got up from her desk and walked slowly to the door. On her way out the teacher had put his hand out as if gesturing for her to stop. She had been expecting this, note to why she was walking to slowly. This particular teacher had almost always stopped her after class to ask her to pay attention for once. She always just nodded her head and agreed however. She really did pay attention at least some of the time. If she was still making fine grades, then what did it matter if she didn’t stay focused like her peers?

“Miss Satō, you know very well that I am going to ask you to stay more focused. I do it constantly in hopes that you will finally stop day dreaming about silly things and listen to what I have to day.”

To his small lecture, Amaya simply nodded and smiled like always, reassuring him that she was put forth an effort to listen.

“Now I know every time I talk to you about this, you always shake your head. You always say that you’re going to fix it, but I have not seen any improvement. Therefore I am going to assign you to do a bit of work around the school. Maybe this will get you to start paying attention to me.”

At this, Amaya looked to the side with an annoyed expression on her face. The teacher then scribbled a few words on a small piece of paper and handed it to her. She took it calmly and walked out of the room while starting to crumble it in her hand.

“I cannot believe this. Giving me work to make me focus more…” she thought to herself.

“Well, might as well see what I have got to put up with.”

She then unwrinkled the paper from her hand, and looked at the small writing scribbled onto it. It read as follows:

“Miss Satō, please report to the training facilities where you will then help tidy up around the place. Give this note to the one in charge there, and they should point you out to what your job for the evening is.”

“Oh, well that’s great…Cleaning. Just what I need on a wonderful evening, when I could be relaxing at home. Guess I should just get it over with.”

She then crumpled the paper back in her hand, and made her way to the training facilities. As she walked along, she noticed the sky had started to turn a lovely shade of pink colour. She loved when the sky was this particular colour, but she was also annoyed that she had to be out this late doing some chores for the academy.

After her travels through the academy, she finally reached the training facilities. She opened the door, and slowly walked in. She turned her head from side to side slowly to see if anyone was around. Sure enough a large plump man was seen sitting in a chair that was obviously too small for him, while eating some strange looking food. Amaya made her way slowly over to him, and looked somewhat disgusted at him as he continued to eat. Once she had reached him, she waved her right arm to get his attention, then handed him the rather worn note to him with her left hand.

The plump man took it from her, read it quickly then pointed over at a small door to the right.

“I want you to go in the storage closet, and organise all of the supplies. Wooden swords, dummies, etc. You may leave when you are done,” he said with his mouth full in a harsh deep voice.

“Yes sir,” said Amaya, while giving the man a slight bow. She then made her way to the closet to start her work for the night. She opened the door, and to her surprise, a boy that looked slightly older than her was already in here organising some of the training supplies. The closet was also a lot bigger than she had expected it. This made her happy as now she wouldn’t have to spend the rest of the night in a cramped closet with another person she did not know.

“Oh hello there. Did not know I would be having company here tonight,” said the boy with a nice smile on his face. “I am Akira, nice to meet you. And your name is?”

“Just call me Amaya,” she said, glancing at him for a moment. “So, we just sort everything out in here, right?”
“Yeah, just make everything neat and organised. I’ve already sorted out the training dummies. You can go on with the wooden swords if you like,” Akira said with a small nod.

Amaya gave a quick smile in Akira’s direction, and then headed off to a pile of wooden swords. They were much unorganised and lay there in all different positions. She picked a sword up one at a time, and started placing them neatly inside a large wooden barrel.

The work seemed quiet and somewhat relaxing until the boy finally broke the silence.

“So what did you do to deserve our little detention?” he asked in a curious voice.

“Oh, um, I was ‘day dreaming’ in class and my teacher just decided I needed to get straightened out I guess. Not that big of a deal. What about you?”

“I got into a fight. It wasn’t that big of a deal really, either. A friend and I were just practicing, and we got a little carried away with things. So now I am here, and my friend got off clean, which I don’t really seem to understand.”

“Ah, well I’m sorry to hear that Akira. I guess life just isn’t that fai-, “she tried to say, but was cut off by the loud sound of the closet door bursting open.

“Quick! You two need to get back to your living quarters immediately. There have been sightings of hollows near here, and we don’t want too much trouble. I’ll take it you two don’t need an escort to your living areas, so make haste!” gasped the plump man, who was clearly out of breath from running all the way to the door.

The two students nodded at one another, and quickly rushed out of the closet, leaving the plump main gasping for air behind. They continued to run out of the training facilities, and then made their way to an empty courtyard, where they then heard howling cries of a hollow that was probably close by. Upon hearing it, they both stopped dead in their tracks, and looked at one another.

“My living area is that way,” panted Akira, as he pointed to the left.

“And mine is the opposite direction. I guess we’ll split ways for now. I’ll see ya’ around the academy, ok?” Amaya asked with a quirky smile.

“Alright then, Amaya. Have a safe journey back.”

And with that, he gave her a quick wave, and then darted off to where his living quarters resided. Just after he set off, another howl then echoed through the air, and Amaya jumped from the sudden noise. Knowing she better be on her way, she took off in the opposite direction of Akira. As she ran she looked up to the sky. It was no longer a nice shade of pink. Instead it was a dull black, with clouds hiding the moon. The cold night air brushed against her, and the wind rustled her hair about.

Yet another hollow screech sounded, and this time she looked over her left shoulder to see a huge grotesque looking creature. She guessed this was a hollow as she had only ever seen them in books, and film clips.

“What is it doing so close to the academy?” she kept thinking to herself over and over again. She continued to look over her shoulder at the hollow as she ran. Suddenly she then saw many characters jump high into the air above the hollow, and bring their swords down upon it. At this she immediately stopped running, and stared as the Shinigami slayed the enormous beast. It was amazing to her how it could look so easy to take down something so huge, and fowl looking.

In a few minutes time the Shinigami had finished their job in taking the hollow down, but Amaya continued to stare at the place where the hollow once stood. She admired those Shinigami and hoped that she too one day could get to that strength, or maybe even stronger. She continued to stare off at the empty space, until a large gust of quickly rushed by. The wind knocked her off balance, thus disrupting her gaze and train of thought. Her moment ruined, she took off running again to her quarters.

After running for what seemed like ages, she had finally made it back to where she resided. She walked inside, and immediately threw herself onto the bed. There was nothing but silence in the room. Taking advantage of the silence she so loved, she closed her eyes and began to think yet even more about what had happened that night.
