I believed many have now acquired a feeling of this as well:

The Hougyoku was initially a device from the Royal Realm (possibly the God's device, existing far longer than any beings), possessing immense power to understand others' wishes and granted them. One of the usage of Hougyouku was to further enhance the ability of Shinigami to achieve full hybridization inside the Royal Realm (thus explaining why the vizards were planned to be executed because of obtaining hollow power through "illegal" means). The energy input of hougyoku was soul, which is the source of power of Shinigami (In Gin's flashback, Matsumoto has part of her soul taken away, possibly weakening her permanently). It developed a sentience of itself after years of granting wishes, and started to drain the souls of people inside the King Realm.

The King of Soul Society deemed it to be too dangerous, he destory its form and discarded it from the Royal Realm. Though its form was destoryed, its existence remained, albeit highly weakened and its consciousness shunned. Some hundred years latter (100 years before the main plot), both Urahana and Aizen sought ways to advance further Shinigami's power, the power of Hougyoku responded to them and finally it crystalized into two separate objects. Aizen found this newly "created" item had immense potential and started injecting more souls into it to invoke its power. Initially he was just using people from Rukongai, in order to attract littler attention, but they possessed weak souls only (thus failing to qualify as Shinigami). But it should be enough for Hougyoku to retain its power like breaking down the barrier between Shinigami and Hollow. Aizen used it to work on modifying hollows (the ones Hisagi and Kaien met). Obviously, since the power of hougyoku was still very weak, it cannot do much. Latter he tried to absorb the shinigamis' souls, and in this process, the shinigami's power was drained (soul being absorbed), turning them into pure hollows. In TBTP, he used hougyoku on Kensei to see if captain level shinigami could give what sort of outcome if their barrier was tampered. Through the event, Aizen realized Urahara possibly also "created" Hougyoku.

The feeding of souls to Hougyoku went on while Aizen became the captain, some of the sentience of Hougyoku returned and urged Aizen to go to Royal Realm if he wanted to obtain further power, and he must obtain Urahara's Hougyoku as well. So Aizen worked hard to make an army of Arrancar and seeked out Urahara's Hougyoku. In truth, Hougyouku wanted to return to its former power and possibly revenge over the King.

Urahana sensed something was sinister from Hougyoku so he sealed it, and nullified it by using Rukia. While Aizen was aware of its sinister plot but was confident that he could subdue it at last, so he went on following his plans. Finally, in the SS Arc, he acquired Urahara's Hougyoku and gave it to his own Hougyouku.

By recovering the another half of itself and fed with numerous souls, Hougyouku's power was already over than its past self. However, it was shrewd enough not to venture into Royal Realm in its current form. In fact, it planned to acquire a body of its own. Ideally, it would be some strong spiritual being's body, such as Aizen AND Ichigo. Hougyoku suggested to Aizen that its full power could be temporaily restored if fused with someone like Aizen, and in the process protecting its host.

But Aizen was not fool (at least at that time), so he used two beings to see if what would happen if fused with Hougyoku. That's what we saw in Szayel's lab. The result should be satisfactory so Aizen fused with it. But it seemed that Szayel thought their bodies might show interesting result so he took them away.

Aizen was cautious not to completely rely on Hougyoku during his fight initially, they had not yet completely fused at that time. But In Aizen's fight with the Urahara's group, Urahara used the shackle and Aizen had no choice but to rely on Hougyoku to save his life. Here hougyoku finally get its chance and started gaining access to Aizen's soul.

Aizen was right to say "he felt much more powerful than ever" because he also had access to Hougyoku's immense power. He was also protected by hougyoku because hougyouku needed his body. The GagaAizen was Aizen at top actually, because at that time, he was still dominant over Hougouku, he could use his own and Hougouku's power.

Unfortunately for Aizen, as time went, his mind was actually overtaken by Hougouku (by absorbing Aizen's soul) , but he did not felt it. The erosion jumped deeper each time he used hougouku to save his ass (like the stab by Gin). He was certainly right to feel he had become more powerful when he disintegrated the glass bottle and recovered from any shot, but in fact these were all works by hougouku. Aizen's power output was actually smaller (the sword fight, kido) compared to untransformed Aizen, hence he was owned by Ichigo completely.

Currently (chap 290), Hougyoku had almost finished taking over Aizen's soul, that's why you see Aizen had become more Hollow like. Ichigo would finish Aizen by FGT but it would fail to kill Hougyoku. Afterwards it will create the Royal Key and open the realm to Royal Realm

“So what are we going to do today Raven?” the twin sprits said in unison as they leaned on invisible surfaces in mid air.

“I don’t know it’s been fairly slow as of late, I was thinking of a little trip to the human world to pass the time,”

“Ohh…” the two sprits knew that Raven intended to go and find some hollows to slay, after assuming command of his division he had rarely seen action. “Will we get to come out and play?” They asked in their customary fashion.

“We’ll see,” Raven said rising from his trance. The Captain of the Sixth Division retrieved his Haori and quickly exited his office, within moments Raven arrived at the senkaimon, he simply glaired at the
two guards, who being sixth divisioners quickly opened the gate for their captain

“Vice Captain Senjero is in charge until I return understood?” The two nodded and Raven stepped through the opened gate and quickly moved through the dangai and emerged in the world of the living. The captain took a deep breath and closed his eyes trying to sense any nearby hollows, and picked up a few faint traces of hollow reiatsu coming from a nearby town. The captain smirked as he felt the limiter seal form on his left hand. Raven cracked his knuckles and his neck, it was playtime. In an instant Raven disappeared and moments later he reappeared in front of the first hollow, it was week and buckled from the pressure of Raven’s presence. It tried in vain to escape the captain, but was ripped in two with a sudden swipe of Raven’s Katana.

“It’s better than nothing I suppose,” Set said already sounding a bit more upbeat. Raven quickly moved to the next hollow and dispatched it in a similar fashion. It was then Raven noticed something odd,

“It’s mid-day where are all the humans?” Raven looked around the cityscape and there wasn’t a single human to be found.

“Heh heh heh,” a dark chuckle came from behind Raven, he spun around to see it’s source there he was faced with a man about his height with a silver flowing hair, he was draped in a shiny black robe that seemingly moved with a life of it’s own, and around his eyes were bone white fragments

“An Arrancar?” the stranger bowed still chuckling “Who are you and what do you want,” Raven demanded bluntly his hands clasping the hilts of his swords.

“I am known simply as Shade, and I wish to add you to my collection,” no sooner had the man finished speaking than he lifted his arms and the pitch black robe exploded outward and dark tendrils of energy launched themselves at the Sixth Division Captain. Raven ducked and weaved trying to avoid the malevolent energy he sensed within Shade’s Attack. He drew his swords quickly while simultaneously launching dozens of bolts of lightning at the mass of tendrils. Several were knocked back but there were thousands more flying towards him. Raven slashed furiously at the dark appendages cutting them back but more came to replace them. Raven lifted his hand and began to chant

“Bone of a straggling beast, spire, crimson crystal, disc of steel, when the wind shifts, and the emptiness ceases, let the clash of lances resonate through the relinquished castle. Hadou sixty three Raikouhou!”(Thunder Roar Cannon) he roared the name of the spell as the mighty burst of yellow lightning issued from his hand blowing away the tendrils. Raven looked around for the Arrancar who had called himself Shade but he couldn’t see him anywhere. Then there was the sound of clapping behind the captain, he spun around quickly to see Shade hanging in the air just above him.
“A most impressive display of power Captain,” the black clad Arrancar said sounding genuinely impressed “Human souls are dull but filled to the brim with delectable darkness,” Raven cocked an eyebrow

“And what the hell is that supposed to mean?” Raven said not understanding what his opponent meant by ‘Delectable Darkness,’ Shade simply laughed

“You see my dear shinigami that each soul is divided into two parts the Light and the Dark, no matter how virtuous or corrupt the soul they will always contain both. When I feed on souls I draw out the darkness from a soul and feed upon it and it alone, and my hunger is insatiable. And all of the darkness I’ve consumed grants me powers the like of which you’ve never seen before,” he lifted his hand and a chunk of the black martial from his robes leapt into his hands “Rise my Shadow Minions!” he shouted throwing the dark orb at the ground. The orb shattered like glass and each piece grew into a humanoid form, they solidified and each launched itself at Raven. Raven’s sword met the first shadow man and was astonished to find that his blade wouldn’t cut though, he launched himself backwards and forced some of the reishi in the air to become a ball about the size of a golf ball he charged it with Hadou 5 Sakuretsu and launched it at the group of shadows. The ball exploded on contact but the shadows seemed un-phased and continued to advance Raven let his reiatsu rise to its current limit. At Twenty percent of his maximum power Raven felt sure that he could handle Shade and his incorporeal army.

Raven lifted his blades and focused power into his blades and launched himself at the shadow warriors, the increased power to his swords allowed him to slice though each of them with relative ease.

“So much for your shadow puppets,” the captain said smirking, Shade’s response was to return the smirk and point behind Raven. The sixth’s captain turned around to see the shadows coalescing into a single shadow beast, “Oh Come On!” Raven said getting annoyed

“That beast represents only a quarter of my full potential as of this moment,” Shade said appearing on the beasts shoulder. “I’ll be seeing you Captain, So much darkness so little time,” the Arrancar said disappearing into a Garganta as several more opened releasing a flood of hollows.

“Now can we play Raven?” the twin sprits asked in a tone that was somehow sweet, innocent and bloodthirsty all at the same time. The Captain smirked and said

“Absolutely, Strike Rokaku Shindenkou!” (Captured Crimson Lightning) he linked the guards of the two swords and united them into his Shikai, Raven swung the twin bladed weapon down to his side and whispered “Katana no Denkou” (Lightning Sword) the lightning that normally jumped from blade to blade increased dramatically until it was a solid seven foot long blade of light, he swung his sword and a line of light was traced out and a single bolt of crimson light sprung out, The bolt was much larger than usual and emitted a low roar, the bolt was a nice fusion of his normal shikai abilities and he named it Haruichiban Bakuha (Storm Bolt) the large bolt ripped though several hollows, and raven followed in the wake swinging his oversized blade tearing though dozens of petty hollows. The hollows were nothing as Raven arrived at the Shadow beast, it seemed like it wasn’t even there until Raven felt it’s reiatsu it was as strong as he was at full potential maybe even stronger. Raven approached the beast and attacked preemptively, swinging his blade into the beasts torso the creature howled in pain which Raven didn’t get how that was possible, it was just a shadow, albeit a big one. The creature stumbled back and took a swing back at Raven. The massive limb made contact with the sixth’s Captain knocking him into a wall,

“Ouch,” Raven said holding back the need to scream in pain, the sixth Division’s captain pealed himself from the wall and attacked again this time thrusting his sword into the offending appendage of the beast, again the beast howled but the pain Raven was causing wasn’t enough to stop it from slapping at the pained area like the shinigami on its arm was a pesky mosquito, Raven jumped away in the nick of time only to get slammed again, the captain shook off the impact and the rubble and shouted “That tares it!” Raven activated his VOX bead with a quick tap

“this is Captain Westward I need my limiter lifted immediately,” the voice of the operator on the other side spoke through the small bead

“Your request is being processed, And has been approved” Raven smiled

“Thank you,” he said before disabling the bead and shouting “ Gentei Kaijo!” (Limit Release) the symbol of the sixth division appeared on his left hand and then dissolved releasing his true power the pressure from the sudden release crushed stones to dust and hollows into pulp. A glow emitted from his hand forming a copy of his Zanpaktou also in Katana no Denkou but he quickly changed one into it’s bow form he drew up the massive energy sword and used it like an arrow, he drew it back until the energy string was taunt he focused his energy into the blade and spoke “Shuukei: Katana no Denkou Ya” (Last Sight: Lightning Sword Arrow) and the captain fired the now massive sword arrow at the shadow beast the red streak struck the monster in what would have been the heart the creature. The creature stumbled back and dispersed. Historical update: Modified version of the Tower of Babel. 2010 AD. This newly erected tower is located in Lima, Peru slightly to the western most part of the Pacific Coast near this country's border. Identical in virtually every way except for an extremely deteriorating foundation and archways. Climate is favorable: 65 degrees F. Winds fairly calm, weather conditions are optimal for shikai training.

my most favourite character is Gin Ichimaru because he has this creepy smile that i find funny and scary and not many people have a smile like that.

My fellow members, the purpose of this area is to better your skills at team combat. As you can see, this massive complex is designed for the optimum combat experience. Here, teams can combat other teams, practice team attacks, and receive training to further their skills.

Rules
  • Only one spar at a time. So, there can be a max of four people (Two teams) here at any given time.

Edit: I didn't know were I am going to post this in Character or Manga section so I tossed a coin and ended up in Character section, so don't blame me if this thread was posted in wrong section, blame the damn coin! I highly doubt one zanpakuto could have the latent ability that, once released, provided the shinigami with power to match Aizen's, who spent basically his whole life searching for greater power. Seems that the Tensa Zangetsu's final form or whatever it is, combined with the fact that Ichigo aged in the Time Chamber thing would have accounted for his current power? So did Ichigo's Tensa Zangetsu really provide that much power or did he naturally have the astonishing growth rate, except since he spent time in the Time Chamber, he is so much stronger? The Thirteenth Division Library

In the oldest part of the division where only spiders dare to go is the archive or library, home to scroll upon scroll of information about the members of the Thirteenth.

Among these scrolls are great secrets whose discovery would doubtless put the whole world into jeopardy. The contents of these scrolls are so top secret that they are required by division law to be coated in a thick layer of dust and cobweb at all times.

Please remember not to give out important private information such as where you live, your real name or any details that might put your personal security at risk. This thread can be viewed by anyone on the net, so please do take care with your answers. Please also remember BA rules are in operation over this thread at all times. Please only answer questions once - questions may be changed periodically.

Please take careful note of all library rules. Signing this document means signing your soul over to the eternal care of the scroll-keepers, and they have very long memories.

Terms of Service:

When using the library:
  • Please do not use scrolls to kill the creepy crawlies who work in the Library. Employing good bug staff is a tough ask.

  • Brushes and pens will be provided on request. If you are less than six inches tall, please contact a member of staff for information (you can do this by tugging on their toes - all library employees wear open toed sandals)

  • Please do not graffiti the work desks with the name of your current crush. Your last crush might see it, and fighting is not permitted within the library walls.

  • All fighters will be squashed, stretched, pinioned, racked and tossed out of the window to the crocodiles. In the interests of promoting a peaceful working environment, library staff reserve all rights to mutiliate members who break the rules.

  • As a result, library desks are not weapons, no matter how appealing their splinters might look.

  • There will be no idle talking within the library area. Sudden loud noises may wake the skeletons sleeping in the Closet.
